In the wake of media speculation that an indictment might be filed against the ruling HDZ party, the State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) said on Tuesday an investigation into the Fimi Media corruption case was still under way and that media claims about possible deadlines and decisions were premature.
DORH issued a statement on its website following an article in today's Slobodna Dalmacija daily and a response to it on tportal.hr, saying a decision in the case would be made after the investigation was completed, within the deadline prescribed by law, and that the public would be informed on time.
Slobodna Dalmacija said the 18-month deadline for completing the investigation into the HDZ's slush fund expired in a month and predicted that it would result in an indictment against former Prime Minister and former HDZ president Ivo Sanader and others as well as in an indictment against the HDZ.
Tportal.hr contacted HDZ lawyer Vladimir Gredelj about the article and quoted him as saying: "I called State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic this morning and asked him to confirm the Slobodna Dalmacija front page news. He said it was an absolute lie."
