Swedish Queen Silvia who is currently accompanying her husband King Carl XVI on a state visit to Croatia, on Tuesday visited the Croatian State Archives (HDA).
Queen Silvia toured the Archives in the company of Croatia's first lady Tatjana Josipovic.
The Swedish queen showed great interest in the exhibited documents at the Archives where she was able to view some of the oldest Croatian parliament's documents (1557 - 1608), coat of arms of northern counties, a document founding the University of Zagreb and medieval documents in the ancient Glagolic script as well as the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Slavonia dating back to 1496 portraying the ancient Croatian symbol of the marten running between two rivers, the Sava and the Drava. This coat of arms was later to be the Sabor's official seal.
Queen Silvia and Mrs. Josipovic also toured the main laboratory and conservation and restoration department at the Archives. The Archives building is one of the best preserved examples of Secession architecture in Croatia. The edifice was built in 1913 and designed by architect, Rudolf Lubynski.
