Toxic loans account for 12.74 pct

Of HRK 295.6 billion worth of loans in Croatia by the end of March 2012, 12.74% or HRK 37.6 billion accounted for non-performing loans, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) said on Friday.

Figures showed that companies had more problems repaying their loans than private citizens, as non-performing corporate loans accounted for as much as 20.8%, compared to 8.74% of non-performing household loans.

The ratio of partly recoverable and fully irrecoverable loans in the total amount of loans increased by 0.31%, from 12.43% at the end of 2011 to 12.74% at the end of March 2012.

Bad loans increased by nearly 1.3% since March 2011 when they accounted for 11.46% of total lending.
