The European football governing body UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the Croatian Football Federation on Tuesday after Croatian fans lit flares and threw objects into the pitch during the EURO 2012 match between Croatia and Ireland on Sunday, the French news agency AFP said.
UEFA said that its disciplinary panel would examine the case on Friday, and the Croatian Football Federation may be fined under the existing rules.
Croatian fans lit two flares after Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic scored a goal in third minute and another four after Jelavic scored in 43rd minute. One more flare was lit after Croatia scored a third goal in 48th minute.
UEFA has also taken disciplinary action against Germany and Portugal, and is investigating incidents caused by Russian fans and alleged racist chanting at matches between Spain and Italy and between Russia and the Czech Republic.
