The Federation of Independent Croatian Trade Unions (SSSH) has welcomed the adoption of the Declaration on Free Movement of Croatian Workers which the European confederation of trade unions adopted at its session on December 5 and 6, expressing hope the government would advocate equal treatment of Croatian workers in the EU.

In a letter to Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, the SSSH stressed that freedom of movement of workers was a key part to freedom of movement of people, adding that transitional measures referring to freedom of movement of workers introduced by EU members to protect their labour markets represent a derogation of the right to freedom of movement of people and the right to equal treatment of all EU citizens.

The union believes that these measure do not contribute to the creation of a true unified market on which goods, capital, services and workers would be able to move freely to the benefit of citizens, economies and societies.

The Declaration on Free Movement of Croatian Workers calls on EU members to refrain from implementing any temporary measures aimed at stopping or limiting free movement of Croatian workers within the EU.
