The institute of the referendum is still unavailable to Croats because they live in a country in which they decide on nothing, HUS union federation leader Ozren Matijasevic said in Sibenik on Friday.
Speaking to the press, he said 450 referendums were held in Switzerland over the last 100 years but in Croatia only two in 22 years, both initiated by politicians and not citizens.
Matijasevic supported the Referendum Uprising initiative, which has been collecting signatures for four referendums, including a new one on Croatia's European Union accession.
He said the situation in the EU had significantly changed since the accession referendum was held a year ago and that a new one should be held in Croatia, which is set to join the Union on July 1.
