The head of the European Union Delegation in Zagreb, Paul Vandoren, and Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister, Radimir Cacic, held their first official meeting on Monday to exchange views on issues relevant to ongoing reforms in improving the business environment with a view to the economic recovery and prosperity of Croatia as an EU acceding country, the EU Delegation said in a statement.
On behalf of all EU embassies, Vandoren presented to Cacic a list of recommendations concerning foreign direct investments, saying that EU companies needed speed, legal stability, predictability and transparency.
The EU ambassador highlighted difficulties in attracting foreign direct investments to Croatia and the need to improve the business climate for foreign direct investments as being crucial for the development of the Croatian economy in the context of the country's preparations to join the EU single market.
Cacic agreed that one of the priorities of the Croatian government should be attracting investments.
The talks also focused on the process of privatising the shipyards, with Vandoren saying that the European Commission would closely monitor the restructuring of the shipyards in Croatia.
