The residents of the northern Croatian city of Varazdin are electing a new mayor and two deputy mayors on Sunday in the first early mayoral election since 2009, when local officials were elected directly for the first time.
The government called the early election in Varazdin after Mayor Ivan Cehok resigned in July while in investigative custody for embezzlement.
Polls opened at 7 am and will close at 7 pm.
There are four candidates - Miljenko Ernoic of the HSLS party, Goran Habus of the HNS-SDP-HSU coalition, and Zlatko Horvat and Ladislav Ilcic, both independents.
