The member of the Libyan National Transitional Council in charge of justice, Mohammed al-Alagy, has said that there are a lot of foreigners among those arrested in Libya, including Croats.
"The prisoners are being treated well. Those who did not commit crimes will be released after questioning, while the rest will be tried," al-Alagy said on Monday, adding that foreign mercenaries, including 17 Croats, had been arrested in Tripoli.
The Croatian Foreign Ministry told press on Tuesday it had received no official information that any Croatian nationals had been arrested. The ministry said it would ask the Libyan diplomatic mission in Zagreb whether any Croatian citizens had been arrested in Libya.
The ministry recalled that most of the Croatian nationals had been evacuated from Libya in late February and early March and that since then no one had asked the Croatian embassy for assistance.
According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Libyan rebels are holding "several hundred" prisoners, including foreign nationals.
