The day of Croatia's international recognition is a day when we stop and think of all our brave sons and daughters who defended Croatia, but today we also mark another important day - the day of the return of Vukovar and the entire region into the constitutional and legal order of the Republic of Croatia, the day when peaceful reintegration was completed, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Saturday at a ceremony marking the 19th anniversary of Croatia's international recognition, held in Karlovac.
The ceremony, held under the auspices of the Ministry for the Family, War Veterans Affairs and Inter-Generational Solidarity, was attended by top state and local official and representatives of Homeland War associations.
Kosor stressed that together with the first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, veterans deserve the greatest credit for the free and sovereign Croatia which today is at the threshold of another great objective, namely it is about to close its EU entry talks.
A letter by Croatian President Ivo Josipovic was read out at the start of the ceremony.
