Australian federal police are trying to locate Dragan Vasiljkovic aka Captain Dragan, who appears to be on the run after the High Court has ruled that he can be extradited to Croatia to face war crimes charges, Australian media said on Wednesday.

The Australian federal police are continuing inquiries in order to locate Snedden, the Attorney-General's Office said in a statement.

Vasiljkovic, who lives in Australia under the name of Daniel Snedden, failed to appear at the High Court in Canberra on Tuesday when the decision providing for his extradition to Croatia was handed down and police fear he is on the run. Allegedly, he decided to return to his house in Coffs Harbour the night before.

Vasiljkovic turned over his passport at the judiciary's request a month ago. According to the media, he holds Australian and Serbian citizenship.

A spokeswoman for the Attorney-General said Vasiljkovic did not notify the authorities about a change of address, and that police were looking for him.

The Australian High Court on Tuesday overturned a Full Federal Court ruling that Vasiljkovic could not be extradited to Croatia because he would not receive a fair trial as a result of his political beliefs.

The former Serbian paramilitary leader was arrested by the Australian police in January 2006 after an extradition request by Croatia.

Croatian authorities suspect Vasiljkovic of war crimes committed against captured Croatian soldiers and police in Knin and Bruska in February 1993.
