Members of the Facebook community have launched a campaign of support for good neighbourly relations between Serbia and Croatia following incidents and assaults on Croatian handball fans in Novi Sad earlier this week, the Serbian news agency Beta reported on Friday.
Facebook users from Serbia and Croatia were posting on their profiles a photomontage of Serbian and Croatian national flags merged together.
The Croatian and Serbian national handball teams are to play a semi-final match of the European handball championship in Belgrade tonight.
Earlier this week, several Croatian fans were injured and about 40 cars with Croatian registration plates were damaged when hooligans assaulted Croatian fans after a handball match in Novi Sad. The police arrested 13 people on suspicion of involvement in the assaults.
The 2012 EHF European Men's Handball Championship is being held in the Serbian cities of Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and Vrsac on January 15–29.
