The coalition led by the opposition Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of Tomislav Nikolic, won 73 seats in the Serbian parliament in Sunday's elections, while the coalition headed by the Democratic Party (DS) of Boris Tadic won 68 seats, according to a final assessment of parliamentary election results by Serbian non-governmental organisation the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID), released on Monday.
They were followed by the coalition led by the Socialist Party (SPS) of Ivica Dacic with 45 seats, the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) of Vojislav Kostunica with 20 seats and the coalition headed by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Cedomir Jovanovic with 20 seats.
The slate of minority parties led by the Alliance of Hungarians of Vojvodina (SVM) won five seats, while three other minority slates took one seat each.
The assessment did not include votes from Kosovo because their count began at 3am, but they were not expected to have a major impact on the final composition of the new parliament.
At the previous parliamentary election held in 2008, the coalition led by the Socialists of Ivica Dacic won 20 seats, while at this election they captured 45 seats and were seen as the biggest winners. The Radicals could turn out to be the biggest losers as initial assessments showed that they would not enter parliament.
