The Split City Council at Monday's session which focused on the problems this coastal city experienced during recent snow storms did not accept a draft conclusion of nine councillors to call a referendum on the replacement of Mayor Zeljko Kerum and his deputies whom the dissatisfied councillors held responsible for the city government's failure to ensure that the city brace for the extreme winter conditions in February,

Ten out of a total of 20 members of the Council present at the session voted against the proposal. In order for the conclusion to be adopted, a majority of the 25 members of the Council had to vote in favor of the proposal.

Three Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) members of the Council left the session before the vote, as HDZ councillor Sanja Bilac was prevented from moving more items to today's agenda, Bilac told reporters she wanted to request the resignation of City Council chairwoman Nevenka Becic.

After leaving the session, Bilac told reporters she would return only for the vote, but did not, nor did the other two HDZ members of Council.
