Croatia's inflation rate in August reached 4%, which is the highest inflation rate in the past three and a half years and higher than expected, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.
Consumer prices, as measured by the consumer price index, were 0.5% higher this August than in July and were 4% higher than in August 2011, the Bureau said.
This means that the annual inflation has accelerated given that it was 3.4% in July.
The inflation rate was higher than expected as five macroeconomists polled by HINA news agency projected that consumer prices in June would go up 3.5% on the year.
Compared with July, prices of good in August were down 0.6%, while prices of services were up 0.1%.
