The Croatian People's Party (HNS) issued a statement on Wednesday saying that Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina should exchange data on people wanted for war crimes in order to avoid cases similar to that of Croatian war veteran Tihomir Purda, who was arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina last week on an international warrant issued by Serbia.
The three countries should sign an agreement saying that the country on whose territory a wanted person resides should launch an investigation, while the other signatories should accept the results of the investigation and decisions taken by the judicial authorities of the country in question, the statement said.
Many people in the three countries cannot live normal lives because various lists of war crimes suspects are kept secret. Publication of the Croatian War Veterans' Register will bring order to the entire system and will only do credit to those who really defended their country in the war, the HNS said.
