Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Friday received the European Speech of the Year award which was bestowed on him by European Movement Croatia and Europe House Zagreb for the speech he delivered on 9 December 2011 when Croatia and the European Union signed the Treaty of Accession in Brussels.

The two associations said that Josipovic's speech promoted the same goals and values to which they were committed.

At the award-giving ceremony in Zagreb, Josipovic said that the award belonged to all those who had worked on Croatia's aspirations to join the EU over a long period of time.

In this context he recalled former Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, her successor, the incumbent PM Zoran Milanovic, and Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic as the fervent proponents of the idea of Europe.
