First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusic said in Zagreb on Friday that Croatia would most likely hold its first elections for the European Parliament in April, less than three months away from the country's scheduled accession to the European Union on July 1.
"According to all consultations that have been conducted, elections will most likely be held in April," Pusic told a press conference at which she presented her ministry's Centre of Excellence.
Pusic said that they would be historic elections because Croatian voters would for the first time choose their representatives to the European Parliament and the first elections where voters would be able to vote not just for party slates but also for individual candidates.
Elections for the current European Parliament were held on June 7, 2009 and the five-year term of present MEPs expires in June 2014.
