The extradition of former Bosnian general Jovan Divjak to Serbia is "unthinkable" for Austria, France Presse cited Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger as saying on Sunday.

"According to our experts on international law, an extradition to Serbia is unthinkable," Spindelegger was quoted as saying by the daily Kurier, which hit the newsstands on Monday.

Divjak was arrested at the Vienna airport on Thursday evening due to Serbia's accusations that he committed war crimes against retreating Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) troops in Dobrovoljacka Street in Sarajevo on 3 May 1992.

Divjak could remain in custody for several weeks, namely until Austria receives from Serbia documents for his extradition, an Austrian official said.
