Slovenian business daily Finance said on Friday the operations of the Slovenian branches of the Austrian Hypo Bank were under investigation.
The Ljubljana police told the newspaper the investigation was launched in July, but would not reveal more information. The police would not say if the investigation order came from Austria or who was suspected.
Austrian bodies would not reveal more either. The Slovenian central bank would not say if it had been requested to submit information on Hypo Bank's operations in Slovenia.
Hypo began operating in Slovenia in 1994. According to the media, it holds one third of the leasing market in the country with a balance of EUR 2.3 billion. It is also the ninth largest bank in Slovenia, with a five-per cent market share, 49,000 clients and a balance of EUR 2.33 billion.
