France will ratify Croatia's EU accession treaty early in December, Senate Speaker Jean-Pierre Bell said after meeting Croatian President Ivo Josipovic in Paris on Tuesday.

The Senate plans to ratify Croatia's accession treaty with the European Union by the end of the year, or more precisely at the beginning of December, Bell said. That is a very important moment for Croatia, which will be followed by its entry into the Union, he added.

Our meeting has been very fruitful and we have received good news, Josipovic said. Croatia will become a member of the EU on 1 July 2013 and we will be partners to the European countries, including France with which we are connected through many projects, he added.

Josipovic took the opportunity to thank France for the assistance it had been offering Croatia for years.

Bell said that the Senate's European Affairs Committee deserved the greatest credit for the forthcoming ratification of the Croatian treaty.

Josipovic and Bell also discussed bilateral relations, especially economic cooperation, expressing hope that the good relations would become even better with Croatia's entry into the EU.
