The County Court in the coastal city of Sibenik on Thursday released controversial Zagreb businessman Tomislav Horvatincic from custody after 30 days.

County Court investigating judge Branko Ivic said Horvatincic was released upon the expiry of the term of detention set in his case and after all witnesses had been interviewed in investigative proceedings the Sibenik County Court was conducting against him for causing a maritime accident in which two people were killed.

Ivic said the court granted a request from the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor to ban Horvatincic until further notice from driving motor vehicles or vessels. If the police find him driving, he will be taken into custody again.

A month ago, off the coast of Primosten near the islet of Maslinovik, driving above the allowed speed limit, Horvatincic crashed his speedboat into an Italian sailboat, killing the couple Francesco and Marinelda Salpietro who were on board.
