Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Tuesday received the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, to discuss Croatia's cooperation with the Hague-based tribunal, the President's Office said in a statement.

The statement said the talks focused on the military documents sought by the ICTY prosecution in the trial of three Croatian generals, and the efforts being made by the Croatian authorities to locate the missing documents.

Josipovic and Brammertz also talked about international law and its role in the contemporary world, the statement said.

Yesterday, Josipovic met US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen Rapp and assured him that Croatia remained committed to full cooperation with the ICTY in all issues, including the wartime artillery logbooks sought by the tribunal.

Brammertz is scheduled to submit his report on cooperation of the countries in the region with the ICTY to the UN Security Council on 18 June. Brammertz's assessment is important so that the European Commission can greenlight the opening of Chapter 23, which deals with the judiciary and fundamental rights, in Croatia's EU membership talks.

Brammertz is also scheduled to take part in a regional meeting of state prosecutors on the northern Croatian Adriatic archipelago of Brijuni on Thursday and Friday.
