Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Saturday evening received for talks a delegation of farmers' associations who informed him of their negotiations with the government, the Office of the President said in a statement.

The delegation also informed President Josipovic about the protests they were organising throughout the country.

All participants in the talks supported a true reform of the agricultural sector in line with EU standards as well as strict compliance with relevant laws, including those on farming incentives.

They agreed that the situation in agriculture was difficult, and the farmers also informed the President about the problems and irregularities they were encountering.

Josipovic called on farmers' associations and the government to resume talks and, taking into account the current situation in the economy, to find a fair solution to farmers' problems and carry out reforms.

The delegation said that they would inform the President of new developments and possible continuation of talks with the government.

The delegation consisted of Mato Mlinaric and Darko Oskera, representatives of the Independent Croatian Farmers association from Bjelovar County, Dragutin Dukic, representative of the Coordinating Body of Farmers' Associations from Pozega County, Matija Brlosic, representative of the Brazda association from Osijek County, Zvonko Pipic, representative of tobacco growers from Virovitica County, Josip Brodjanac, representative of crop farmers from Virovitica County, Tomislav Pokrovac, representative of the Croatian Farmers' Association from Vukovar County, Josip Zmaic, representative of Brod-Posavina County, and Tomislav Majetic, representative of the Pozega County association of cattle farmers.

Also on Saturday evening, the national association of dairy farmers issued a statement on farmers' protests, saying that it appreciated all democratic means of drawing attention to the situation in agriculture, but called on all "to accept the compromise solution offered by the Agriculture Ministry in line with the talks of February 26."
