Following statements by some individuals and political parties and media reports, President Ivo Josipovic stresses once again that a statement he made in a recent interview with Reuters news agency was misinterpreted, the President's Office said in a statement on Friday.

Responding to the reporter's question, the President made it clear that he did not expect radicalisation of the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina because they are pro-European and we share European values with them.

"The President regrets if his statement hurt someone because of misunderstanding or lack of clarity, all the more so since his entire political project of reconciliation in the region is based on respect for all religions and nations," the statement said.

The statement said that Josipovic supported Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration and that he had shown on many occasions that he respected its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the religious persuasions of all its citizens.

Josipovic said that apart from well-meaning comments there were also those that were aimed at negating the results of his reconciliation policy and at stirring inter-ethnic intolerance, because it was clear that their interpretations had no foundation in the statement he gave to Reuters.
