Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Saturday visited members of the 16th Croatian contingent at the Marmal military base in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.
Josipovic, who is on an official visit to Afghanistan, arrived at the base, which is part of an airport, aboard a C-160 jet.
Upon his arrival, Josipovic met with the deputy commander of the Regional Command North of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), US General Sean Mulholland.
He then reviewed Croatian troops and lit a candle at a monument commemorating the killed ISAF members.
Josipovic ended his visit to the base by meeting with Croatian soldiers.
Currently, 334 Croatian soldiers are serving in the ISAF mission. The Croatian parliament has decided that the number of Croatian troops in Afghanistan can be increased to up to 350 in 2011 and 2012.
Josipovic is the first Croatian president to visit Afghanistan and Croatian troops serving in the peace mission there.
