Croatia's best Alpine skier Ivica Kostelic won a slalom race in Adelboden, Switzerland, on Sunday, taking the lead in the overall World Cup rankings as well as in the slalom rankings.

Kostelic finished the race with a time of 1:50.90, followed by Marcel Hirscher of Austria (+0.26) and his compatriot Reinfried Herbst (+1.29).

In 2002 Kostelic was second in the slalom at Adelboden and last year he was third.

This is Kostelic's second World Cup victory this season and 13th in his career.

As for Kostelic's rivals in the race for overall victory in the World Cup rankings, Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway did not take part in today's slalom, Benjamin Raich of Austria gave up in the first run, and the Swiss Silvan Zurbriggen was 10th.

Kostelic is now in the lead in the overall World Cup rankings with 504 points, followed by Svindal with 435 points and Zurbriggen with 421 points.
