The managing board of the Mediteranska Plovidba shipping company has notified the Zagreb Stock Exchange that its last ocean-going ship has been sold at an auction held at a court in Rotterdam and that it will file for bankruptcy in the coming days.
The managing board said on Wednesday that this was the last in a series of events which left no room for anything else but to file for bankruptcy at the relevant commercial court, announcing that the company would do this in the next few days.
All plans aimed at reaching an agreement with the creditors and recapitalisation by the state have failed, the Mediteranska Plovidba managing board said.
The company's last ship was sold for EUR 500,000, plus procedure-related expenses amounting to EUR 56,000.
According to the media, the ship Atlantik Frigo, seized in Rotterdam, was purchased by a Dutch broker. The vessel was put up for auction after the Croatian shipping company failed to secure EUR 400,000 for the salaries of seamen and suppliers who then asked that the ship be seized. The court in Rotterdam then decided to put the ship up for sale.
Mediteranska Plovidba is a shipping company from the southern island of Korcula transporting frozen cargo.
