The president of the coordinating body of farmers' associations from Slavonija and Baranja, Dragutin Dukic, who organised the ongoing farmers' protest in the eastern town of Ferovac, told reporters on Tuesday morning that Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic had just called him to say that he would not be coming to Ferovac, citing pressing engagements in Zagreb.
The farmers spent the night alongside the main road in Ferovac and were planning to use their tractors to again block the intersection of roads leading to Nasice, Slavonski Brod and Pozega today. They told Cobankovic they were not going to attend the scheduled meeting of farmers' associations in Zagreb and that they were waiting for him in Ferovac.
There were about 150 protesting farmers and 70 tractors in Ferovac on Tuesday morning.
The farmers began their protest on Monday, demanding payment of the full amount of grants until the end of the month, payment of the money owed for capital investment, rescheduling of all loans, and cheaper diesel fuel.
Protest leaders said they would stay on the road until their demands were met.
