Party clubs in the Croatian parliament on Wednesday supported a draft decision on the adoption of a physical plan for the multipurpose Danube-Sava river canal, with the Opposition MPs claiming that the current government was putting the project on the agenda two months before parliamentary elections as an election trick.
Mirela Holy of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said that the Danube-Sava canal project would be one of the many foundation-stone-laying ceremonies staged for election purposes.
Zlatko Koracevic of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) said the incumbent government "is taking the project out of the back of the drawer" at the end of its term just as former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader did in 2007.
