The Osijek County Prosecutor's Office on Monday received from the Chief State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) a case file on Tihomir Purda, a war veteran from Vukovar who is charged by Serbian authorities with war crimes against wounded and infirm people, the spokesman for the local prosecutor's office, Zvonko Kuharic, confirmed to media.
Kuharic said that the file was being processed and studied, adding that could not give any other details except that this was a priority case because the suspect was in extradition custody in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
DORH received a copy of the case file on Purda via the Croatian Embassy in Serbia last Friday.
DORH decided to refer the case to the Osijek County Prosecutor's Office instead of the Vukovar County Prosecutor's Office which has territorial and subject matter jurisdiction in the case.
After it studies the submitted material, the Osijek County Prosecutor's Office will decide on further proceedings, DORH said.
Purda has been in custody in Zenica prison since January 5, when he was arrested on entering Bosnia and Herzegovina from Croatia at the Orasje border crossing.
