Zagreb’s Medvescak lost 6-3 away at the Vienna Capitals in the 50th round of the EBEL League. This loss puts the Bears farther away from a possible playoff spot
Medvescak’s second consecutive loss following the loss to Jesenice and yesterday’s loss to the Capitals dims the Bear’s chances of reaching a playoff spot this season. The third-place Capitals beat the Bears on Austrian ice 6-3.
The Vienna game started poorly for the Bears as Bouchard scored the opener six minutes in, the only goal in the first period.
Medvescak opened the second period looking for a goal and scored the equalizer five minutes in with an Andy Sertich goal. It seemed as if the Bears might take home a point, but the Caps bounced back scoring through Rebek and Pinter.
The Caps would score three more times before the end of the game with goals by Martin Ulmer, Harald Ofner and Francois Fortier.
With four rounds left until the end of the regular season, Medvescak is in ninth place and tied for points with Jesenice who hold the eighth spot that leads to the playoffs. Slovenia’s Olimpija is in seventh, four points ahead of the Bears and compatriots Jesenice.
Medvescak plays the Graz 99-ers at home in the 51st round of the EBEL League.
