Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic in Brussels on Friday said that he expected the Interior Ministry to conduct an investigation into allegations that former police director Oliver Grbic had last year ordered the secret surveillance of chief state prosecutor Mladen Bajic and eight journalists, adding that he did not have any further information regarding the matter.

"I don't have any new information because I have been occupied most the of the night and today (at an EU summit in Brussels). I cannot say anything about the investigation as I cannot meddle in it but I expect it to be conducted strictly", Milanovic said after the summit.

Milanovic recalled what he had pointed out two years ago "when investigations were under way which are now being brought into question".

"I had not accused anyone then of any surveillance or spying or secret investigations, but we pointed out the coincidence of several investigations of some SDP (Social Democratic Party) leaders, when the police charged three prominent SDP mayors within two weeks. All those investigations fell through but no-one was held responsible. I said then that this did not seem normal and in fact was odd and now there is news of other irregularities but I'm sure the Interior Ministry's investigation will show the truth", said Milanovic.
