A 54-year-old citizen of Croatia has been arrested in Zagreb on suspicion of causing two explosions that rocked the western part of the capital this past week, police announced at a special press conference on Sunday evening.

The first blast occurred on the railway tracks in Podsused early in the morning on January 9, causing property damage, while the second one went off at a bus stop in nearby Stenjevec, injuring the 54-year-old man who happened to be in the vicinity.

The man who was injured in the second explosion has been hospitalised and is now being treated as a suspect.

The man is believed to have planted and set off two makeshift explosive devices and criminal action will be formally taken against him within the next 24 hours, Criminal Investigation Department chief Vitomir Bijelic said.
