President Ivo Josipovic on Monday signed a decision calling a parliamentary election for December 4, his office said.
In diplomatic and consular missions, the voting will take place on December 3 and 4.
The decision goes into effect on the day of adoption and will be published in the National Gazette today.
Over the next two weeks, candidates must submit their draft slates to the State Election Commission which then has 48 hours to approve and publish them in all daily newspapers and on television. The election campaign begins on the day of publication.
Josipovic called the election based on a decision on the dissolution of parliament, which MPs adopted last Friday.
His office said the president would address the public on Wednesday at 7.30 pm to comment on the current state of affairs in the country and call on all Croatian citizens to go to the polls and do their civic duty.
