The second the Split Pride parade ended without incidents and most of the participants have dispersed, police reported on Saturday.
By 1540 hours, 40 people were taken into custody for minor offences, notably for not having their ID cards on them and for disturbing public peace and order. "There were no incidents that could have jeopardised the safety of participants in the Split Pride 2012 parade," police said.
After the parade ended, the police escorted the organisers and some of the participants.
This is the second gay pride parade taking place in Split. The first one was held in 2011 and was marred by violence. Nine hundred police provided security and a helicopter cruised above the seaport while the parade was under way.
