This year's World Theatre Festival, to be held in Zagreb on September 9-27, will feature five attractive European author theatre productions, it was said at a news conference on Thursday.

The five productions, which range from performance and multimedia projects to expressionist and radical physical theatre, will be staged at Zagreb's theatres ZKM, the Croatian National Theatre, and the drama theatre Gavella.

The 9th World Theatre Festival will open with Thomas Ostermeier's radical interpretation of Shakespeare's Othello, to be performed by the Schaubuehne am Lehniner Platz from Berlin.

The renowned Flemish artist Jan Fabre will stage in Zagreb the play "Prometheus, Landscape II", an author's vision of the myth of Prometheus.

Flemish stage director Ivo van Hove will take part in the festival for the first time, with his project "Opening Night", a stage rendition of director John Cassavetes' award-winning 1977 film, to be performed by his company, Toneelgroep Amsterdam.

The Vienna Burgtheater comes to Zagreb with a stage rendition of Oscar Wilde's Victorian-era hit The Picture of Dorian Gray, directed by Bastian Kraft.

The festival will close with Gardenia, a stage production by Belgian choreographer and director Alain Platel.
