Taxi drivers in Zagreb on Tuesday evening ended their protest after the leadership of the Radio Taxi Zagreb association made a decision to that effect, the association's spokesman, Mirsad Hukic, said on Tuesday evening.
"Taxi drivers have started working normally, and around 8 pm they ended the blockade of Cirilometodska Street outside the City Assembly," said Hukic.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the decision made by the City Assembly to liberalise taxi services, Hukic said the protest was discontinued for the sake of citizens.
The leadership of Radio Taxi Zagreb is in session tonight and will decide on steps to be taken next, Hukic said, apologising to all citizens who had problems in transport due to the taxi drivers' protest.
Taxi drivers on Tuesday blocked with their cars some streets in downtown Zagreb, roads in the area of the City Assembly and the entrance to the City Assembly as the city authorities were deciding about the liberalisation of taxi services.
Under the latest decision of the City Assembly, the number of taxis in Zagreb will be increased to make the ratio of taxis per population 1:600.
