Nineteen civil society associations signatories to Platform 112, which advocates a law-based Croatia, on Friday asked that First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic resign.
The associations said in a press release that Cacic was found guilty by a Hungarian court today of causing a traffic accident with two fatalities.
The associations said they were disappointed by PM Zoran Milanovic's recent statements, which they say "belittle the Hungarian judiciary, downplaying the notion of the rule of law," whereby Milanovic overstepped his powers.
"Like the prime minister said three weeks ago, the government has set certain standards of behaviour that it will stick to. That's what we want in this case too. We expect the most senior political officials to abide by all the rules of behaviour, including those in traffic, and we expect the prime minister to be consistent, so that the members of the Croatian government can start assuming political responsibility for their actions," the press release said.
