The 7th edition of British Days, the event aimed at promoting British culture and values in Croatia, began in Zagreb on Tuesday evening with a screening of the Oscar-nominated film The King's Speech at the CineStar Branimir Centar.

The event was formally opened by British Ambassador David Blunt, who said that the film portrays an individual's strength, courage, support and team work, expressing hope that it would win a lot of Academy Awards.

The King's Speech is a story of King George VI and his struggle to overcome a stammer and his fear of speaking in public. It received 12 Oscar nominations, and premiered in Zagreb as an introduction to the 12-day British cultural event.

The central event of British Days will be a multimedia party dubbed "Love & Money", which will take place at the Croatian Society of Visual Artists on Thursday, featuring presentations of 50 "icons" of the British creative industry.

On Wednesday, the British Embassy and the European Union Delegation will present the latest twinning project aimed at improving the regulatory system in Croatia to ensure better business results.

February 9 will be dedicated to sports. Ambassador Blunt and Embassy staff will try their hands at the Paralympic sport of sitting volleyball and will challenge a Croatian Parliament team in a game of curling, the popular Scottish sport.
