Anti-government protesters, who rallied in Cvjetni Trg square in central Zagreb at 6pm on Friday, continued their protest in the evening by marching through the city centre, calling on the government to resign and call an election.
During the march, the demonstrators were joined by citizens, so that their number grew from an initial 2,000 to an estimated 8,000.
Just as in previous days, the protesters first tried to reach St Mark's Square, the seat of the government and parliament, but were turned back by the police, and then headed for the headquarters of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, chanting "HDZ thieves," "We want elections" and "We want change". They stayed there for about 15 minutes and then headed for Vukovarska Street.
The protest was passing without incident, with only a small number of police providing security. The traffic along the march route was disrupted.
