The Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, said in his Christmas message on Monday that despite the crisis, insecurity, indigence and violence, there was in the human heart a thirst for the Light and that the experience of people of all cultures confirmed that man carried inside a mysterious yearning for God that was evident in the human heart.

Cardinal Bozanic released the message via the electronic media.

He wondered what salvation the people of today expected, who had the know-how and great technical possibilities and thought that nearly everything would be possible to man, when "the crisis, insecurity, indigence and violence threaten us from all sides."

He said Christmas gave man the strength to oppose the logic of evil, calling on him to push for the good of man and the world and giving him hope in times of insecurity in various areas because the birth of Jesus Christ confirmed that God had heard man's cry.

"The Croatian Christmas, regardless of how tough it is, has always been a joyful event because it has been celebrated by Christians filled with faith," Bozanic said, wishing Croatians a merry and faithful Christmas, notably to children, mothers and fathers, the young, the ill and those suffering.
