The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, on Monday called on former Yugoslav republics and the international community to intensify efforts so that the remaining two ICTY fugitives -- Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic -- could be apprehended.
The key objective, which must be realised before the end of the mandate of the ICTY, is the arrest of Mladic and Hadzic, said Brammertz, who arrived in Sarajevo for a three-day visit.
His visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of preparations before the submission of a regular report on cooperation with the ICTY to the UN security Council.
Brammertz plans to write the report after visiting Zagreb later this week and Belgrade in early November.
Brammertz said the ICTY Prosecutor's Office needed full cooperation from former Yugoslav republics to be able to wrap up all seven ongoing trials in The Hague, which was also the topic of his talks in Sarajevo.
Brammertz stressed his office is very interested in offering assistance and information to local judiciaries so that they could process the many war crimes trials referred to them by the ICTY.
The international community's High Representative, Valentin Inzko, told reporters that his office would continue to support the ICTY, adding that he would see that Bosnian authorities cooperate as well.
Brammertz is scheduled to meet representatives of the State Court and the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday.
