Croatia's Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic will take part in a semi-annual informal meeting of foreign ministers from EU member and candidate countries in Sopot, Poland, on Saturday.

This is the first time since Croatia completed its EU entry talks that its foreign minister will participate in the so-called Gymnich summit.

The summit will focus on the situation in the south of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, with emphasis on the historic changes in the Arab world, and on relations with strategic partners.

One of the topics will be the current situation in the EU's southern and eastern neighbourhood and the EU's joint efforts to support democratic transformation processes in those countries.

Jandrokovic will join EU foreign ministers on the second day of the summit, together with the foreign ministers of the other candidate countries, Macedonia, Iceland, Turkey and Montenegro.

The Gymnich summit is held twice a year in the countries that are current EU chairs. The summit was named after the Gymnich Castle near Bonn where the first informal meeting of EU foreign ministers was held in 1974.
