Several hundred members and supporters of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) of Hague tribunal indictee Vojislav Seselj gathered in central Belgrade on Friday to protest against the acquittal of former Kosovo Liberation Army commander and prime minister Ramush Haradinaj, burning the flags of the United States, the European Union, NATO and Kosovo. They accused President Tomislav Nikolic of treason and demanded his resignation.

"The Hague tribunal and its judges just carry out orders and that's why people should not be angry at the tribunal but at those who give them orders - the USA, the EU, Germany, France, NATO and other enemies of ours," SRS official Nemanja Sarovic said.

He described as "monstrous" the statement by his former party colleague and now Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic, that Serbia would not survive without the EU.

"Not even Hitler spoke like that - the EU or death! There is an alternative and those are Russia, Latin American countries and traditional friends of Serbia," Sarovic said.

He said that demonstrators burnt the flags of the US, the EU and NATO "because they are not afraid of them or of their servants who are in power in Serbia," alluding to President Nikolic.

"Tomislav Nikolic, you are a pathetic traitor. The president of all free Serbs is Vojislav Seselj. Serbia will not survive if the traitorous regime of Nikolic, Dacic and Vucic stays in power. Tomislav Nikolic, step down because you are a traitor in the hands of the West," SRS official Natasa Jovanovic said.
