This past Thursday the Croatian government appointed Zdravko Rogic to be Croatia's expert to work on a solution for savings which Croatian clients deposited in the now-defunct Ljubljanska Banka during the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
Earlier this month, Slovenia named France Arhar as its financial expert who is expected, together with his Croatian counterpart, to propose a solution for this matter to Zagreb and Ljubljana.
Rogic is a senior advisor in the office of the Croatian National Bank (HNB) governor. He was the HNB Deputy Governor from 1990 to 2000 and is also the authorised Croatian representative in the committee of countries-successors to the ex-SFRY in charge of dividing the SFRY financial assets and liabilities.
Recently Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic and her Slovenian counterpart Karl Erjavec announced a possibility for the two countries to engage two experts to address this matter.
Pusic reiterated Croatia's view that the issue of the debt of the Slovenian bank to Croatian clients must not be connected with the process of the ratification of Croatia-EU accession treaty in the Slovenian parliament. In the meantime Erjavec has told the national television that the two experts might set out their solution this September.
