Major-Generals Branimir Glavas, Mirko Norac and Vladimir Zagorec, Colonel Tihomir Oreskovic and Major Sinisa Rimac have been stripped of their ranks by the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces, Ivo Josipovic, the President's Office said in a statement on Tuesday.

Josipovic signed this decision on September 9 and it was published in the Official Gazette on September 20.

Glavas, Norac and Oreskovic were stripped of their ranks because they have been found guilty of war crimes against civilians. Glavas has been sentenced to eight years in prison, Norac to 12 years, and Oreskovic to 15 years.

Zagorec has received a 7-year prison term for abuse of office, and Rimac has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to eight years' imprisonment.

All five men forfeited the right to wear the Croatian army uniform with corresponding insignia and other rank-related entitlements.
