The GONG nongovernmental organisation has stated that the regulations made by the Finance Ministry on keeping record of donations and costs of election campaigns are lacking as they fail to ask election candidates to specify in detail advertising costs during electioneering.
GONG issued a statement on Thursday pointing out that forms on campaign costs do not contain sections on amounts of money spent on advertising and types of advertising as well as the duration of advertising.
GONG believes that a cost form should include sections on advertising costs and subsections such as costs of promotion on television, radio, in the press, on the Internet as well as duration of advertising and specification of costs of advertising on billboards, city lights advertising, posters etc.
This is important as advertising costs during electioneering make up a majority of election campaign expenditures, GONG said in the statement.
