The president of the strongest opposition party, the HDZ, has strongly criticised the division of Croatia into two statistical regions - Adriatic and Continental - saying in Karlovac on Wednesday this was contrary to the law and the strategy of regional development which envisage three regions.
Introducing something new now, when everything is ready for European Union funds, lacks seriousness and is risky for Croatia, Tomislav Karamarko said.
The division of Croatia into two regions was criticised also by the Croatian Party of Rights Dr. Ante Starcevic, which said it would prevent the equal development of the country and called for a referendum on the matter.
The party said such division was a move whereby the "government continues to curry favour with the European region."
