The international animated film festival Animafest celebrates its 40th birthday this year. The festival will take place in Zagreb on May 29 to June 3, and will feature foreign and domestic productions of festival winners and films by the doyens of the Zagreb School of Animation.
The exhibition "40 Years of the World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb, 1972-2012" will be put on display at the ULUPUH Gallery. Among the valuable memorabilia will be works by renowned artists from Croatia and the former Yugoslavia.
The festival will host Yoji Kuri, the pioneer of Japanese animated film, who will be presented with the Animafest Lifetime Achievement Award, and Priit Parn, an Estonian animator and triple winner of the festival's Grand Prix award.
This year's festival will be held at several venues in the city, including the cinemas Europa, Tuskanac and Cineplexx Centar Kaptol, the Museum of Contemporary Art, several cultural centres, and in the streets.
